About the house

Three decades of lending and investing with judgment.

Upsurge Investment & Finance Ltd is a non-banking finance company, listed since 1996. We are promoter-led and conservatively run, and we lend and invest with a single discipline behind everything we do: put capital only behind something real, structure for a clean exit, and manage it with patience and restraint.

What we hold to

  1. Secured, always

Every rupee we lend is backed by an asset we understand and can value. We price for the risk we take, and we do not take risk we cannot see.

  2. Speed with discipline

Fast does not mean loose. Because the homework is done and the structure is clear, we can decide in days without lowering the bar on what we will finance.

  3. Conservatively run

We keep a prudent balance sheet and use leverage with restraint. Capital is there to be protected and deployed with care, never stretched to chase a number or to flatter a quarter.

How we lend and invest

We start with the security and the cash that services the loan, not with the size of the cheque. If the asset is sound and the repayment is visible, the rest is structure, and structure is where we add value: tenor, covenants, and an exit that works whether the plan goes well or simply goes.

We keep the process light on the borrower. No padding the file with paperwork that proves nothing, no fees that punish you for repaying early, no surprises buried in a term sheet. The discipline lives in our underwriting, not in the friction we impose on you.

When we invest our own capital, in listed or private companies, the same rules hold: a business we understand, a price that leaves room for error, and the patience to hold it for as long as the case holds.

What governs a loan

We read the cash a borrower actually generates, not the cash a projection promises.

A good story is not collateral. We are sceptical of optimistic projections and dressed-up numbers; what we underwrite is a real asset, a conservative loan-to-value, and a source of repayment that exists today. When a deal needs heroic assumptions to work, we treat that as our answer.

Why we exist

Good borrowers with good security are too often kept waiting, charged to be assessed, and penalised for repaying early. We have simply never run our house that way. We lend prudently, to people and assets we understand, on terms we would accept ourselves, and we have done so quietly for three decades.
